There are many reasons why kids don’t get enough sleep. During the school week, we as parents barely get to see our kids if we put them to bed at 7:00 at night! For parents who work, adhering to strict sleep guidelines limits the amount of time we can spend together. Add homework, chores, dinner, sports, baths, reading….forget it!

We make the argument that it is worth exploring a restructure of family priorities to better align with the healthy sleep recommendations. And for good reason!

As educators, we have seen many students who suffer from the effects of ADHD symptoms. Likewise, we see students everyday who struggle through their day due to lack of proper sleep. Sometimes these students look the same as learners.

So. What’s the solution? We suggest some subtle moves in the right direction. Make all the time you spend with your kids part of the ritual of winding down. Kids who are overtired typically rev their engines near bedtime. That doesn’t mean they aren’t tired. Some suggestions:
